Friggin' awesome.
Congratulations!

Does anyone remember the 'look and feel' case Apple had against the eMachines eOne (http://news.cnet.com/Apple-sues-eMachines-for-iMac-look-alike/2100-1040_3-230054.html)?

Having not read the briefs on either side, I can't really offer a knee jerk reaction in either direction. I do find myself both frustrated with the state of intellectual-copyright law and also with the general stagnation in the industry that leads so many to borrow from other companies (mainly Apple). With the exception of Apple we have seen very little disruptive innovation in the last ten years.
My immediate thoughts is that this goes beyond what can be captured in side-by-side photographs. The iPhone is a wildly desirable device and as such is attractive equally to competitors. The issue becomes that rather than differentiate, overwhelmingly, we are seeing companies synthesize and replicate aspects of the iPhone to gain traction. There are deep 'look and feel' issues at play here and over time there is an extent to which it has become a 'cat and mouse' game.
In the end, just like every other one of these cases, it will end in a settlement and both sides will negotiate the most favorable outcome. That whole Creative-Apple row in 2006 ended with Creative becoming one of the first partners in Apple's Made for iPod initiative.

If I may, because Amazon sells 12 bags cheaper (per unit) than any other store. About once every 4-6 months I buy 12 bags of Haribo Gummi Bears for under $14.00. If you were to buy a 5 oz bag in store, you'd be paying at least $2.99, on a super good day. For me though, I need to put them away someplace where I'll likely forget or I'll eat a bag a day in place of a meal.
Not exactly what I was going to say but hit the nail on the head. It's much cheaper than going to the store plus gas and time it's a no brainer when these can be waiting for me on my doorstep when I get home.
and also Amazon has EVERYTHING!

Welcome to Photo of the Day. The POTD thread was started by iGary, and first posted in May, 2006 It was converted to a monthly thread in November 2007 by Arn. POTD is one of the most popular picture groups on MacRumors and often exceeds 500 posts and 20,000 views per month.
Photo of the Day is intended to be a showcase for your best pictures. There is no limit to your gear, just your imagination. P&S and film cameras are welcome along with DSLRs. There are no themes like the Fortnightly Challenge and Weekly Contest. No winners (or losers) either.

Sweet!
As long as Apple doesn't grow too fast, this is great news. Get to Gateway in the next few years, and I'll be happy. Just don't grow too big, Apple.
Few years? How about next month or TOMORROW?! :p

Apple today released iOS 4.3.2, bringing several minor fixes and improvements to Apple's operating system for mobile devices. The build number is 8H7 for the majority of devices, with the CDMA iPad 2 receiving Build 8H8. A separate iOS 4.2.7 build 8E303 is also available for the CDMA iPhone 4.BGR noted (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/07/ios-4-3-2-due-in-next-two-weeks/) one week ago that iOS 4.3.2 was expected to debut within two weeks and reported earlier this week that the update would fix (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/11/ios-4-3-2-to-fix-verizon-ipad-2-connectivity-facetime-issues/) the issue with CDMA iPad 2 connectivity and FaceTime glitches.

Two versions of the iPhone and two current versions of iOS. Wait, is this iOS becoming fragmented? ;-)

Of course I read the damn thing. Is it not clear from the report that the invention really is the proximity detector. Synaptics or whatever they are called already have advanced touch devices on the market, thats nothing new. Maybe the software side of things, ie. how to interpert the inputs is novel but really its the ability to "remote control" your ipod without anything but your bare hands.
By the way, just watched Superman Returns there, not too shabby!

No thanks.
4.0 max whilst retaining current size. It's a phone not a tablet.
You can fit 4.3 in the same size if you make the screen longer only and drop the home button. The bonus is you get an extra row of icons.

If this patent is anything close to reality, Apple may be prepping something much bigger than an iPod, something closer to a full-featured OS X tablet computer. You'll be running a full-featured version of iTunes, not just the simplified UI of the iPod:

Hmmm, why would an update of Front Row be deemed top secret...
Could this suggest that the mythical iHome might be coming soon?
Well, I don't know about the name considering iHome are a successful company that make a range of iPod-enabled clock radios but it certainly sounds like a good product.
