... would be to outsource the mundane clerical work to a more efficient *on-shore* processing firm, and web-enable most services, remove repetitive submission of same documents with every single application, and provide customer access to his/her immigration profile & docs online (so we don't have to carry around the history of our lives on paper.... wherever we move... ).

    jazz

It would probably be OK... but as you've rightly guessed, and given the fact that USCIS hasn't really outlined any plans to demonstrate how the extra money will be spent and whether it will guarantee better and faster service measured by a dramatic reduction in processing times, this money is probably going towards enforcement.

It's probably DHS getting the money (not USCIS directly - the checks I wrote were for DHS, iirc).

    jazz

Just an update from my front, for the info of anyone else in a similar boat.

Consulate issued me a stamp to 4/30/2010.
I re-entered US. The officer at the Canadian airport issued me an I94 for 3 years from arrival date (instead of all the way to 4/30/2010). I am sure I will travel some other time in the next couple of years and I expect I will get an I94 all the way to 4/30/2010 when I enter back.

    Here is my situation:
Currently on 7th year H1 extension which expires 4/30/2007 (7th year extension not stamped in passport).
Have another 3 year extension approval ie., 5/1/2007-4/30/2010.

Will be travelling to canada on Feb 22nd for visa stamping.

    Few qns:
    1) Will the consulate issue me a visa all they way to 4/30/2010?
If yes, will they issue two stamps in the passport one to 4/30/2007 and one to 4/30/2010, or just one stamp?

    2) If they issue one all the way to 4/30/2010, I am assuming I can re-enter the country straightaway ie., the visa does not have an effective "begin" date of 5/1/2007.

Anyone have any experience with a similar situation?
    Your help will be appreciated.

yes, he lucked out when his file/case/name/application got picked last Aug/Sept when that PD was current for a brief while.

I could be wrong, but don't the dependents also need their PDs to be current in order for their 485 to be approved?

The wife wasn't as lucky and her application wasn't picked while the window lasted, which is why she is still waiting. No?

    hey gcseeked2002...

There are many who have received their EAD and have their FP done, but are awaiting AP...You are in the other boat ..where in your have AP waiting for EAD....I would recommed not stressing out...eventually you will receieve it.....With the July-Aug visa fiasco, USCIS is under tremendous pressure to issue out EAD within the 90 days to everyone...Allow them so room for error.....your EAD will eventually come....hang in there...just like everybody else you is waiting for AP....

Yes, most of the states are going to implement it. It is allready existing in P.A. and I know atleast 2 people who's friends picks/drops them to work. It's a shame, living in this country for 6 years and suddenly your DL is snatched away. Getting 3 years H1B extensions in all circumstances is on of our main agenda at iv.org please see our brochure in resources section. This will solve atleast some part of the problem.

Yes. Its simple math. But if it was 10K visas a year, then why did they have to jump forward by more than 2 yrs? Nobody knows how USCIS works internally. The math that v have and the one that they have differ a lot and unexpected things (for good or bad) happen all the time.
in 1999-2000 ISNAmerica group was formed by immigrants affected by backlogs...it dissipated with the AC21 rule being passed...I hope and pray that immigrationvoice does not go away like that... We need a permanent entity to fight not just the unjust laws of the land but also anti immi groups - who want to close the door behind them.

Because you , me and many like us have bad luck!!!! EB categories are now unofficial lottery system. If you lucky you will not wait!

I dont have any other explanation.

The harder I worked, the luckier I got.. I am quoting somebody here.
What did we really do in the last so many years to highlight our issues. Be frank. Did you just wait for things to happen or did you participate or do somethig atall. Your answer will help others realize if something is missing and hence can convert into positive action.

I went to stamping in Montreal on 10/10/06. No issues or problems. I also recommend to be prepared for a lot of questions, and take all the paperwork.

My visa was also expired in 2004. I got 3 years VISA stamp upon my 3 year extention approval.
    Good Luck.

Okay this might seem really silly, but ... we got two kids < 2 years and our FP apt is at 8am. That's definitely going to mean cranky kids so I want to prepare as much as possible for the worst.

Question - How much time does the FP process take for two people? Ours is code 3 - fingerprints, photos, if that makes any difference. Is there typically a long wait at the USCIS centers?

I think the time it takes for FP varies from ASC's to ASC's. Mine was done at phoenix and it tooks three hours for us from the time we went in to time we came out. It it is in the morning i guess it would be much faster becuase yours my be one of the first appointments

Not sure what they do in the secondary inspection.. In my case they asked no questions at all.. Just asked me to sit and wait while they entered / checked something in their system. I was in and out within 20 mnts.

I had the same experience. However, my POE was Miami. No questions asked. My spouse and I just waited (with our USC daughter) in secondary inspection till they called my name and handed over our papers to me.

My parents visited here in US last year. Unfortunately my mother got high fever and admitted in hospital giving me bill of 30000$.

Insurance company denied my claims as pre existing condition. I tried several ways to convince insurance company but all in vain.

I negotiated with hospital to pay 15000 and paid off hospital bill.

I also got a doctor bill later and that went to collections. I didnt pay doctor bill (500 dollars) till today.

Does this 500 dollar collection notice will effect my mothers next visit?
If I pay now does it matter anyway?
Is there any chance of deportation?

    Please advice...

Not paying the $500 is bad for your credit history. However, they should have no effect on your immigration --- AFAIK, the only thing they check if you were ever on public assistance ...

If you havent already seen threads here about how bad the desi employers here in US can be, companies like Satyam, Infosys who are based in India have even worst reputation..they pay indian salaries and expect round the clock work including weekends..and ofcourse no pay..working at McDonalds is probably a better option than these companies...

I had a very bad experience working for one of those companies and many more friends had similar experience.
You are absolutely right my friend. And its certainly a better option to work at McDonalds :)

President Obama has proven how tough his administration can be with 287,000 people deported in the past 11 months, many of whom have U.S. citizen spouses and children. The American Dream is a Dark and Twisted Nightmare for Some Seeking Justice in Immigration Courts (http://ailaleadership.blogspot.com/2009/06/american-dream-is-dark-and-twisted.html) ICE detains people suspected of violating civil immigration laws, not criminal laws. In fiscal year 2009, Immigration and Customs Enforcement imprisoned 369,483 immigrant detainees - more than twice the number held in fiscal 1999. Immigrant Detention Doubles Since 1999 (Washington Independent) (http://www.detentionwatchnetwork.org/node/2463) ICE detains more than 32,000 aliens on an average day. DHS OIG Report: Medical Care for Detainees (http://www.aila.org/content/default.aspx?docid=30855). Over 1,500 companies have been subjected to audits by the Department of Homeland Security to verify they completed the employer verification process within three days of hire. ICE CRACKS AUDIT WHIP (http://ailaleadership.blogspot.com/2009/07/ice-cracks-audit-whip.html) to restore accountability to U.S. Immigration enforcement now! Immigration Focus Is on the Employers (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/02/us/02immig.html?ref=global-home). The crises in family and employment immigration are chronic and pressing. The backlog in family and employment waiting lines is gravely dispiriting and undermines the long-held principle of family reunification. Immigrant Visa Numbers Hopelessly Encased In Amber (http://ailaleadership.blogspot.com/2009/06/immigrant-visa-numbers-hopelessly.html). The situation is deteriorating every day with more detentions, more denials, more delays, more deportations and more defective decisions. ICE has now reported 105 deaths in civil immigration custody since 2003. More Immigrant Deaths in US Detention CommonDreams.org (http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2009/08/20-7) Now is the time to turn the tide of the culture of No pervading our immigration system. We need to unite families and we need to keep industry vibrant and competitive. Immigration and American Innovation (http://ailaleadership.blogspot.com/2009/12/immigration-and-american-innovation.html) These shortsighted policies threaten our economic security and that of our childrens as well.AILA believes that a sensible comprehensive immigration reform package will have to include smart enforcement, a path to citizenship for the 12 million undocumented immigrants currently living and working in the U.S., elimination of family and employment-based visa backlogs, adequate visas to meet the needs of U.S. families and businesses, a new visa program for essential workers, and due process protections to restore the rule of law in our immigration adjudications and courts. AILA Welcomes Obama's Proactive Push for Comprehensive Immigration Reform This Year (http://www.aila.org/content/default.aspx?docid=29372). Immigration reform must be a critical part of any effective economic stimulus program. For immigration reform to work, it must provide a path to legalization for undocumented persons. It must provide opportunity for bright graduates and it must open doors for those who bring investments, and for those who establish companies providing jobs and making contributions to our nations economic growth.Representative Luis V. Gutierrezs marker bill was a start, hopefully Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) will lead with an immigration bill the nation needs so urgently. Shortsighted enforcement only policies threaten our economic security and that of our childrens as well. The Obama administration has a clear understanding of the issues and they need to prove they are committed to fairness and due process. Its time to walk the walk - the time for action is now!
